The play is about common everyday activities such as digging a grave, mopping the floor and counting flies. Mechanical movement of the characters evokes an apparent chaos in the play as well as in the viewer's perception.

Precise calculation of the characters, with hte help from the omnipresent absurdity, reveals the bitter truth about solitude, suffering, lack of understanding, fear of death and desire for friendship. Kafka's reality absorbs the character's personality which in the end changes into a dummie programmed to dig its own grave.
